Members of Calvert K9 Search Team were recognized today, during the Prince George's County Police Chief's Award Ceremony, for their actions during an April 2018 callout in Clinton, Maryland.  The Chief's Award citation read:

In recognition of the exemplary teamwork and committment displayed by you and fellow members of the Calvert K-9 Search Team, during an exhaustive search for a 76-year-old male suffering from dementia in Clinton, on April 26, 2018.  As a direct result of your high level of expertise and coordinationed efforts, within hours of your deployment, and strategic grid search with specialized dogs, this man was located in a wooded area, sitting behind a cement structure, making him invisible to searchers.  The Prince George's County Police Department, and the citizens we serve, thank you for helping to bringing this life-threatening incident to its successful conclusion, and commend you on a job well done.

Members present receiving the award were: Ashley Scott, Eric Christensen, Ted Carson, Dona Wilson, Sharon Buckler, Mark Schleicher, Farley, Pamela Saalbach, and Jen Bos-Donaldson.

Members attend Alzheimer's and Autism workshop in PA

Several members of CK-9 attended an Alzheimer’s and Autism 2-day workshop, for first responders, in Pennsylvania. The focus of the workshop was to heighten awareness of Alzheimer's, dementias, and autism spectrum disorders.

Several speakers were on hand including the mother of an autistic young girl who went missing while on a school field trip. It was a very personal perspective and she shared details of what she went through after receiving the call that her daughter was missing. Luckily her daughter was quickly located and all ended well.

The workshop also included breakout sessions with ad-lib scenarios on how to deal with dementia or autistic individuals.
